What to Look for In a Day Care Center

There are countless benefits to putting your child in daycare. If you haven’t already, check out our previous blog that covers a few of the reasons that we think every parent benefits from the services offered at daycare. If you’re ready to reap the many benefits, today’s blog is for you. We are going to touch on a few of the qualities that you want to make sure the daycare facility that you choose has.

Licensing

The first thing that you should look for is licensing. This is going to be extremely important in regards to the following points that we mention, but it’s definitely going to determine how well the staff has been trained and how much you can trust them with the care of your child.

Licensing isn’t given to any ol’ facility. For a childcare facility to receive a license, their staff needs to be fully trained, the facility needs to be clean and have certain safety features, and their curriculum needs to be approved of — and that’s just to name a few! Licensing is a must, and it’s something that they should be proud enough to display near the front of their facility.

Staffing

A factor that should always play a part in whether or not you’ve found the right facility will be the staff. Not only do you want to make sure that they have had plenty of training and experience, but you also want to ensure that there isn’t a shortage of staff. Before you choose a daycare, you should always ask what the ratio of caregiver to children is. The age will vary depending on the age of the children. With newborns, it’s better to have a smaller ratio. In regards to preschoolers or older children, there are usually 10 or so children per teacher. Make sure that you’re asking what the ratio will look like for your child.

Facility

We talked about the facility a little earlier, but it’s such an essential part of finding the right daycare center, you definitely want to make sure that you don’t just give it a quick look over. In most cases, the best way to determine if a daycare facility is going to be a good fit for you, you need to schedule a tour. Not only will this provide you with a glimpse into what your child’s time at daycare will look like, but it can also help ease any nerves that you may have about dropping your child off. Aside from that, the impression that you get of a space can definitely help you determine whether or not the facility is going to be a good fit for you and your child.

Location

Daycare is designed to provide you with the assistance that you need and the quality care that your child deserves. That being said, you also want to make sure that the facility that you choose is within a reasonable distance of your home or workplace. It’s not exactly helpful if you’re driving out of your way to benefit from these services.
